The entire piece mimics an absurdity and discomfort with textile art. The eye mask is smooth, the beading located in the eye socket is sharp, and the eyeballs themselves being removable feels impossible when you are mimicking the motion of reaching up and removing your own eyes.

I wanted to make the eyeballs removable in order to capitalise on this discomfort, not only is the audience blinded, they are both unable to see what the eye mask looks like and also cannot see when they remove their own eyes, but due to the texture of the back layer of the eye mask. They are able to feel it.

I was also inspired by the surrealist work of Salvador Dali and Luis Buñuel, Le Chien Andalou, as well as other surrealist paintings.  The idea of an eye mask that also has eyes reconstructs what eyes are to the wearer and the viewer, and what the real eyes.
