These 5 sketches differentiated from previous ideations as I began to work further into the colour schemes I was able to extract from natural dyes. When I found I was able to produce richer blues and greens and followed my inspiration surrounding chainmail in both clothing and accessories, the sketches colour palette was able to be pushed.
Beginning with 36 initial sketches and then narrowing down to 8 by the end of the first semester of thesis work, I used a summer of loose inspirational sketching to help establish the mood of the entire thesis. Sketching was an integral part of understanding my thesis at it’s very earliest stages, defining the silhouette and construction elements such as corsetry and lacing.
